Chunky bass still biting

So far this month hasnt produced the cosistent sizes and numbers on spotties as it did last January, but there have been plenty of nice fish being caught. The numbers slowed down a bit last week for whatever reason, but seem to be picking right back up. Most the reports with nicer grade spotties have been coming from fishing near docks, and fishing up tight to the shoreline.
Last Sunday me and a buddy got out for a little bit, and while I was getting ready to launch he had 3 fish in about 5 minutes. By the time I was in the water he had 3 more! His first two were near the shoreline, and the rest were near a dock. Every one of them were legal, with 3 over 15". He caught them all on the pink passion swimgrub ;)

2 weeks ago the fish were more out in the open, away from visible structure. We'll see what the future reports show...

Please help!!! Possible ban of lead....

In fishing tackle. Thats correct, as if they havent taken enough away from us already they are trying to keep the flame lit by banning lead now. This means more expensive alternatives for fishing weights and jigheads. I know for a fact if this passes there will be no shad heads, no barrel heads, and no poison tail heads. Please take 2 minutes and visit THIS link and provide proper info and submit it. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Here come the GRUMPS!

For the last three years the best spotty action has been in January, sometimes going into February. These photos were from two different anglers in different parts of the bay, aboth obviously at different times. Spotty fishing is a year round thing, but NOW is the time for quantity, and quality! At night time, the black widow pattern has been responsible for hundreds of spotties, and in the daytime the aquamarine pattern seems to be getting the job done more frequently than other patterns, but all in all anything with greens and oranges will be your best bet.

Go get some, and send me the pics :)

December winner!

December has produced quite a few catches of different species this year, more so than any other year I can remember. I have seen reports of bonefish still biting, nice corvina, the chunky spotted bay bass are biting, big sculpin, a bunch of larger than normal midshipman, some quality migratory sand bass, and this awesome 25" white seabass caught by Brian Johansen while using the 3" ghost shrimp pattern swimgrub. What a great way to end 2011, with a variety!
