I am moving into a place with a garage, and plenty of room for my stuff, and that means the swimgrubs will be coming back to life very soon. I start moving in the first week of June, and once we are all settled in I will start pouring again. I will work on a new website, probably something similar to this one, and once the light turns on, I will inform everyone on here, SD Fish, and SCSurffishing. I won't do any social media, at least not anytime soon. The new company name will be "Tay-lures". The swimgrubs will look the same, only with. "T" on the tail instead of the old T&C Lures text.

As soon as I have some more solid information, I will post it. For now, hopefully this message can still reach some of my old faithful customers. I hope the smile on your face is as big as mine, and I look forward to reconnecting with all of you.
Let me tell you, buying terminal tackle has been killing me lol. I really appreciate those of you who check in every now and then just to see how things are going. Even though it kills me to not have any better news for you, it makes me happy knowing I still have some supporters out there. Lots of you have been following my posts on SD Fish, and have been sending me tons of messages there as well. Thank you. Its been quite a while since I have even poured a bait or a jighead, and I am running out of all my old Big Hammers haha. I need to at least fins one weekend I could just go pour crazy so I have some more. Trust me, you guys arent the only ones who miss the swimgrubs, or the jigheads. I go through Hammers left and right, no where's near the durability of my stuff. But it is what it is. I still use the same email address if anyone wants to drop me a line. tclures@hotmail.com. I have been meeting several new people from SD Fish lately, mainly for bassin. This year was a crazy good year for it, matter of fact it was good enough to keep me away from bean stalkin at the beaches haha. I will be having a little minus tide bass fishing get together if anyone is interested. That will be during the next full moon in a couple of weeks. Email me, or find me on SD Fish, my screen name is DJ Thrillz. Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-53801194537129436572013-12-02T08:18:00.001-08:002013-12-02T08:18:24.411-08:00Still no news...So it's approaching the end of the year with still no good news to report as far as the new business goes. Nothing has really changed, if anything, it's become a tad bit harder to accomplish anything since life keeps throwing me curve balls. I'll keep swinging though... I appreciate everyones emails, and support. And I really appreciate the fact that I have gotten to meet a lot of you for some fishing!
Please enjoy your holiday season, be safe out there!Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-44582386141798823012013-02-25T08:33:00.004-08:002013-02-25T08:33:58.179-08:00Hello everyone!I just wanted to give you guys an update as to where I stand with bait making, and also include a fishing report/summary for the 2013 year(so far).

Unfortunately, not too much progress on the new company yet. Still not sure when I will be able to get this going. On a personal level, too much going on right now for me to even be focused on pouring plastics, but it is something I will continue to do once I have the appropriate work area to make everything. You will not see me make a post that I will no longer be doing this at all, so whatever rumors people may be spreading, pay no attention to them ;) As always, you can contact me with any questions you may have or if you just wanna talk about fishing. My email address is tclures@hotmail.com if you want to get a more detailed explanation of where I stand with everything.

On my down time, I have been able to fish more often, mostly sessions of an hour or less but hey its still being out there. Since the turn of the year, all of my best sessions have been at minus tides. Sadly the last new moon we had was probably the last real good chance at having a stellar session from the shoreline the way I do, and I was only able to get out one day. Since the turn of the year I have caught 191 spotties, and after being bored and curious, I figured I would break them down by size. Here is what it looks like:
49- 10" and under
65- 11"
42- 12"
14- 13"
12- 14"
4- 15"
3- 16"
3- 17"

Average size by math, 11.6", well below the 12.8" from last winter, and there were more fish caught last year too.

38 spotties caught in the morning(before 9am), 112 caught in the late afternoon/early evening minus tides(1pm-5pm), 41 caught at night time(after 7pm). Every single fish caught on plastics.
This winter season has been the slowest one for bassin in at least 4 years. I really expected it to be crazy, I was well prepared for it, but wasnt prepared for the disappointment lol. Those who are able to get a little further out there on boats or yaks should have way better numbers than mine, close to shore fishing from foot or tube was really hit and miss. A couple weeks ago the moss bloom has taken over the shoreline in Mission Bay, making a pain to deal with. I hate trying to get the junk off my bait after I reel it in, and I cant stand the smell when the low tide exposes it....
So, not only have I began my vina hunting(classified- sorry), but I already made an early transition to surf fishing. North County beaches are getting really nice numbers and sizes on spawning perch. If gas wasnt an issue I would be all over it, but I am stuck to my home grounds in Mission Beach where the micros are willing to play. Honestly, its a breath of fresh air compared to Mission Bay right now, pun intended.
For those of you who like soaking baits for big fish, there have been some rather huge bat rays being caught lately. I will also be dusting off the cobwebs on the Teremar to take part in that action soon.

I want to thank those of you who have kept in touch regardless of my situation, I appreciate you all checking in on me. Anyone interested in surf fishing, send me a message. I will be out early on weekends.

Hopefully I will have some good news about the new company soon... Keep the lines tight!

I want to thank everyone again for all of their support. Its pretty satisfying seeing and hearing about people catching fish on plastics that I made. In the near future, It will happen again with several of my other upcoming products. I just hope that its sooner than way later. Although the bait making hault altogether wasnt expected, the time off will be welcomed. There is a lot going on in my life right now and putting lure making on the back burner will really help with the rush rush effect.
The new company will definitely start sometime in 2013, but I do not have an exact date yet. The best way to find out the latest news is by emailing me at tclures@hotmail.com. I will continue to update here as progress is made. Once I have a website up I will put up a notice here for a week or two, and then this blog will be taken offline. If you try to reach me through facebook, it will probably take you a while as I do not go on there very much, as I mentioned before I dont like social networking. You can also look me up in the local fishing forums, Im pretty easy to find.

Thanks again everyone!Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-44958887484220337442012-11-05T14:28:00.001-08:002012-11-05T14:28:11.099-08:00Final T&C photo contest winnerArnold E. caught this nice spotted bay bass while using the 3" razor clam pattern swimgrub and wins the October contest.

I am not sure why the turnout was so small, but we still had a decent raffle anyhow :)

Congratulations to Joel(aka fishing4hali) for winning that beautiful custom spinning rod that Len wrapped and donated. Also congratulations to Greg K(aka frombigisland) for winning the $100 gift certificate to Pt. Loma Sportfishing that was donated by Ron Huber.

Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-84123040139440495052012-10-26T00:41:00.001-07:002012-10-26T00:41:33.384-07:00An unexpected change of plans.....I was just informed that my mother is losing her place, and will more than likely not be living where she is at past the 15th of November. How does this effect me? My moms place is where I make everything at. Baits, jigheads, and molds.... I am not able to make anything at my current place for certain reasons that I will not really go into, its just way easier and more convenient for me to do everything at her place. This puts me in a tough position to move forward with anything to do with bait making. As of right now I have to deal with finding a new place to continue doing what I do. I am not really sure how long it will take.

Since I have been trying to fade out of T&C and bring in the new company, I will not reopen under T&C Lures, it will be under the new company name. Before today, the soonest I seen that happening was maybe the turn of the new year. But that was with my previous complications of bait designing, schedule, and life happenings. Not having a place to make anything is just going to push it out further, unless I can find somewhere else to make everything soon.

Even though I expected to shut down T&C, I surely didnt expect it to go down like this. I expected to shut it down one day, and reopen a new the next. Not close it one day and reopen months later.... This is not something I am very happy about, but at the same time, a little downtime will give me some time to get things in order on a personal level. So many things are happening in my life aside from the bait world that makes temporarily haulting the bait business not seem that big of a deal. I hope to find solutions to all the issues that have presented themselves to me in the recent weeks, especially this new one.

I will be keeping T&C Lures operational until November 6th. If you plan on making any orders, please keep in mind it may take me a couple extra days to complete orders as several people have expressed wanting to make a final order of T&C products before the shut down. I would need to have all orders completed by November 9th since I will be spending a lot of time moving stuff after that. If the orders get out of hand to the point where I know I wont be able to complete them and still have time to help my mom move out, I will notify you via email, and refund your payment. Please know that its definitely a likely scenario. As always, I will make the orders in the order received/paid for.

I am sorry to put such an abrupt stop to things, believe me I am still shocked over it. I will not take the blog offline since this is where I will be updating any forward progress that I make as far as starting the new company goes.

I am not a big social media kind of person, I have always hated facebook lol, so you will not find any updates there. For those that do not know, I can be found on some of the fishing forums that a lot of people frequent.
www.sdfish.com (username- dj thrillz)
www.scsurffishing (username- staylor)
www.oceanicangler.com (username- T&C Lures)

There are other forums some of you have bumped into me on, but the three mentioned ones are the main ones I post on.
You can still send me emails on tclures@hotmail.com. Even after I start the new company I will still keep this email address(I will have a new one of course too).
Those of you who know my cell number, dont be afraid to use it. Those who want to aquire it, just send me an email, its attached to my signature ;)

I cant wait to start the new company, I hope its sooner rather than later. Hopefully all of you will check in and stay updated on whats going on. Hopefully you all become fans of the new company also. Remember, the swimgrub will still be available once its underway.

And YES, we are still on for BBC3!!! I hope to see a lot of you out there :)

I want to thank all of you for supporting T&C Lures.
A couple of things have kept me from moving forward, both on the personal side, and the bait side.

This week, I am testing my larger swimbaits. They are very wide.... I like them, but they will require so much plastic for each one it may not be worth it to sell them unless I put a high price on them, and I dont really want to do that.... But we will see how they do. I did a quick pour of each size for your viewing pleasure ;)

Not the greatest looking pours, or the greatest looking photo, but you have a better idea of how they look now. I call them "Tubbo's" and the sizes in the photo are 5", 4", and 3".

I have 3 prototypes finished but not molded. After the molds are made, baits are poured and tested. If they are satisfactory(to me) then I will post some pics. If they are not, then its modification time all over again.
I think I fished more in the last week and a half than the last month and a half combined. Let me tell you, it sure felt good to find some consistency out there. Summertime fishing for me isnt normally that great anyhow, but this year was the worst out of all the years that I have been logging my outings. With limited time for fishing, I am limited to fishing only a few areas to take advantage of the time that I do have. On 9-28-12, I took my nephew out and we got into some bass in SD Bay. I caught 14 spotties and he caught 10 spotties. Last Sunday(9-30-12) I was able to get on the tube for a couple hours. I fished in SD Bay and caught 21 spotties and a corvina. The next day I was out for about 30 minutes and found 3 decent bass in MB. Tuesdays sesh was short but sweet, about 20 minutes in MB for 1 bass. Wednesday I was able to leave work early and hit one of my favorite stretches of MB for 4 nice spotties in about 2 hours. Thursday I was back in SD Bay for about 25 minutes for 5 spotties and a lizardfish. Let me just say that I am so excited to not have a ton of lizardfish attacking my baits anymore, its like as if they have disappeared all of a sudden.... Friday I hit the tube for a couple hours in SD Bay but only caught 9 micro bass. Yesterday, I went back to SD Bay for some more action and finished with 15 spotties and a corvina. I woke up a tad late this morning and rushed out the door and hit the same grounds where the action has been almost nonstop, and again it did not fail me. Finished with 31 spotties in about 2.5 hours. From June-mid September I have barely logged about 20 spotties(mostly due to all the surf fishing I was doing this year) but when I did fish for bass it was really slow. Since 9-28-12 I have caught 103 spotties, 2 corvina, and a lizardfish. A nice change of pace for sure. Most the fish were caught in SD bay, but a lot of them were sub-legal. Every fish I caught in MB was legalish or better. Anything with orange in it was getting bit for the most part. In SD Bay, I used a modified xmas oil pattern(put an orange belly in it) and it slayed.... I used 3 styles of baits: swimgrubs, curly shrimp pours, and my new swimbaits.
Bonito.... I have only seen a few bonito in SD Bay following my bait, never hooked up to any. Havent heard of any reports of them inside the bays, but I know they have been roaming around Ocean Beach Pier, Imperial Beach Pier, and at the end of the jetty (Dog Beach side) near the channel entrance. The ones at OB have been small, about 12"-14". In IB, there were reports of them being a lot bigger. Guess its a slow year for them too.
Bigger migratory sand bass should start to move into SD Bay pretty soon. Xing fingers ;)

News:
Good news..... Looks like once I start the other bait business I will still be selling the swimgrubs. Wasnt sure if I was going to redesign it, keep it the same, or even sell it at all but as of right now it will still be available :) A slight change was made, instead of a 5" calikiller, there will be a 4" swimgrub. The 3" swimgrub was scaled up to 4", so the body of the 4" is actually a little wider than the body of the 5" calikiller. I used it already and it works just fine, I actually like it better then the 5" version. There will not be a 5" swimgrub available under the new company name.
Most of you know I have a 3" swimbait already completed and tested. Some of you got to see some teaser photos on the T&C facebook page. I also scaled this particular bait up to 4", and 5". I am finding that a full scale is not the proper way to make the baits bigger, but whats done is done. I have not tested the larger sized swimbaits yet, and am not sure if they will be available, but the 3" swimbaits will be.
I am in the process of creating a simple worm for fishing weedbeds, and I am also working on yet another swimbait design. I put the craw design on the shelf for now until the other projects are completed. But you can expect to see one in the future, the craw bait will be mainly for pitching near docks and rocks.
Like August, I only had a few entries again for September. Thanks for those of you who submitted photos, your odds have increased with the decrease of other entries. I was getting 20-40 entries per month until I made the "future of T&C" announcement lol. Not sure if people just arent using the swimgrubs or not fishing at all, but like I said your odds are better than they were, so send in them photos :)
This years contest is not going to be as big as I was hoping for, but every donation counts in the eyes of the Komen foundation, and its a pleasure to help raise some money for them. So wether I have 3 people enter, or 30 people enter I appreciate it very much!

The contest will be held at Harbor Island near the big parking lot in front of the Hilton Hotel from 9am-11am. The $5 donation entry will remain the same, and all proceeds will go to the Komen For the Cure Foundation. I supplied baits and jigheads for the previous contests... but with a really busy schedule and even lack of funds, I will not have any extra time to make anything for this contest. Therefore, for this years BBC3 contest, any type of bait will be allowed. So bring your confidence bait!

I will have a very small raffle at the end of the contest, but will have a very nice grand prize that was donated by a very generous T&C Lures fan named Ron Huber, thanks again for the raffle donation! For those of you who bring a raffle donation you will receive a coupon good for 1 dozen swimgrubs in my newest pattern that nobody has their hands on yet. Raffle items do not have to be pricey.... It would be appropriate for them to be fishing related, but not required. For example I included some movie passes last year, and will probably include some more this year, as well as some T&C Lures bait packages. Some cheap raffle item examples include: Fishing line(8lb-12lb), leadheads, plastics, towels, fishing tools(needlenose pliers, hemostats, nail clippers etc.), bait scent, storage containers.... you get the picture. But if you have something else thats non fishing related but feel that its something anyone can use, bring it for the raffle.... Gift cards anywhere, movie passes, dining certificates, hats, shirts, etc.

Prizes will be given out for:
Most bass caught
Biggest bass(bonus prize if caught with a T&C Lures bait)
-BONUS- Any legal halibut

I cannot keep track of everyones catch, therefore a photo of the fish caught must be taken by a nearby fishing neighbor, or one of my scouts that will be around taking photos. All photos should be full sized, meaning not just a shot of the fish, I want the angler in the photo also, at least from the waist up. To qualify for the biggest bass prize, a tape measurement is required as well as a full photo and must have one of my scouts present to verify fish size and angler info so that it can be reported back to me and noted.

$5 donation entries can either be in cash on contest date, or sent via paypal to tclures@hotmail.com. To sign up for this charity event, email me at the same email address and type BBC3 in the subject heading. Please be sure to include your first and last name, as well as any others who may be participating also.

If you would like to donate something for the Komen foundation or for the raffle but do not with to fish in the contest, please contact me at tclures@hotmail.com. All donations are welcomed, and appreciated.
Where: Harbor Island big parking lot across from Hilton Hotel
Fee: $5 donation, 100% of proceeds go to Komen For the Cure Foundation
Drinks and snacks for participants

EDIT--- A couple things to add:
Anyone 16 or over is required to have a valid California fishing license with ocean enhancement stamp.

This event is from the shoreline only. No boats, float tubes, or kayaks allowed.

Some of you just might get to see first glance of the swimbait prototype I have been working on for months.

Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-66999915999038613892012-09-01T13:20:00.004-07:002012-09-01T13:20:53.631-07:00NewsI want to thank everyone for their interest and concerns for the future plans on closing down T&C Lures. The biggest question I am getting is "When will this happen?"
As if this very moment I am still unclear of a date, everything depends on how the new baits turn out. It has taken me quite a while to get to the point where I am at with my new bait projects, and am almost to the test stage on my 3rd prototype. I had inconsistent results with my last design and decided not to move forward with it, and made some changes. It caught fish and all, but I just wasnt happy with the action it was giving. This new design I am really crossing my fingers for a good performance. If it performs flawlessly, then the time T&C Lures will come to an end will be sooner than later.

Another question is "What about the swimgrub?"
Nobody wants to keep the swimgrub available more than I do. That bait has treated me very well, and is the reason why I started this whole thing in the first place. I have always found more frequent action on the swimgrubs over other paddletail type swimbaits, so have many others. They are not better than any other baits out there and they surely arent any worse, but for some they just flat out work better for them and I am one of them. The problem with keeping the current design of the swimgrub out there, is the fact that I will be starting a new company under another name and do not want to sell the swimgrub with "T&C Lures" still on the tail. According to Jeremy(the "C" in T&C) it would take a while to make the change, and of course money.... So as of right now, There are a couple options. One, wait a while for a mold with the new name or logo on the tail to be machined.... Two, a complete redesign of the swimgrub which would be somewhat similar to the current one, but with a couple small cosmetic changes. I wont state what these changes would be as I dont know which way this one is going to happen, or if it even will at this point. I would love to just have the logo changed and call it finished, but I am also digging my other ideas as well..

Another question, Will you be seeking out testers for the new stuff?"
For the swimgrub, I had at least 15 people from the border all the way up to Santa Monica fishing with them before I put a new pattern out. I eventually narrowed it down to 3 people who pretty much fished daily and all over the place. The conclusion I came up with was that I really didnt need testers in the first place if you have plastics and are fishing wherever there are bass, because they will always get hit. So for the upcoming venture, I may still hand some of the unavailable patterns off to anyone at anytime, but no testers.

"Will they be available in tackle shops?"
The tackle shops want me to sell them a bundle for 1/2 the price, just to sell them more than what I would sell them for. Thats the sound of me losing money, or barely breaking even at best. I will more than likely be doing business the same way as I am now.

"What will the prices be like?"
I hope they are as close to what they are right now, it really depends on how much material it takes me compared to the swimgrubs. But I cant see it being that much of a difference to be honest. I am referring to a 3" plastic of course, but if things go my way there will be other sizes of these baits as well, and I dont have a clue how much they would be yet.

"Are you going to keep selling jigheads?"
Yes, I decided to have the shad heads modified a little and made into 4 sizes. 1/4oz, 3/8oz, 1/2oz, and 3/4oz. These new versions are exact weights, meaning the 1/4oz head is actually 1/4oz including the hook, and the same goes for the others. The T&C version of the 1/4oz head is actually between 1/4oz and 3/8oz, but it was labeled 1/4oz compared to the size and shape of a hammerhead jighead.
There is good and bad though..... Good obviously they are in 4 sizes, bad is the fact that the bigger sizes were still made with a smaller bait in mind. The 1/4oz and 3/8oz will share the same 2/0 mustad hook. The 1/2oz and 3/4oz will share a 3/0 mustad hook, making it appear to have a really short shank. Basically the bigger sized jigheads will work great on a 4" sized lure, but probably not on anything bigger.
These will not be available with fiberguards, but I may try to do them as custom jobs or something(but would rather not).

"Can you show me what the new stuff looks like?"
LOL... 2nd most popular question so far, but wanted to save for last.... I hear the same thing all the time, I wont show anyone, I wont tell anyone, etc.
Some of the same people said the same thing when I originally told them about my future plans, but it wasnt long before I started getting emails asking whats going on with it...
So, not only NO because I dont currently have an actual bait yet, but NO because it will get spread around. Like I said the internet is very convenient...
When I have something that turns out the way I am expecting it to, I will start posting pictures. I dont want to show everyone, get them all excited about them just to not put them out in case they dont perform well. Only one person has seen my newest bait prototype, and only one person has seen my modified jigheads. If the photos get spread, I will know who opened their mouths lol.

I will keep everyone updated as progress is being made. If I had to make a guess, it would be between November and the end of the year. I may be way off, it could be next summer, its just really hard to say. I cant see it happening before November though.
Most of you know me through one or more of many fishing forums. Most of you are also previous customers of mine and have my email address, or even phone number. I am an easy person to get in touch with so if you have any questions please email me at tclures@hotmail.com, call my cell if you have the number, or send me a private message in the forums.

As always thanks for all of your support!
I will be jumping back on the tube on my next off friday(August 3rd). I will be targeting bonefish, and probably throwing plastics for bass while drifting. This will be happening in SD Bay, but I will not disclose the AO. If anyone wants to join me that morning for a try at them, email me at tclures@hotmail.com.Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-66942590855178330442012-07-18T21:58:00.000-07:002012-07-18T21:58:05.626-07:00Some news, and some thoughts...First of all, I hope everyone has found some time to get out there and catch some fish! I havent had too many photo entries this month, so please send them in, you never know your 12" spotty might win lol. Wouldnt be the first time....
Shore fishing from the bays has been somewhat slow depending where you fish at. Dont worry its sort of normal this time of year, just stay mobile and you will eventually find some action. When you do, make sure to work the area over good before moving on. I was actually able to squeeze in a couple bass sessions in Mission Bay last week, and once in SD Bay. Only caught a handful of bass, but it was nice just to get out there again. I have been spending 90% of my fishing time at the beaches hunting down corbina and big perch. The beach is where a lot of the action is at during the summer, and so far I have turned 3 good bay fishing buddies of mine onto surf fishing, and they do not regret it. They are having a blast!!! If surf fishing is not your type of thing, then this is for you--- the best action in the bays has been from 5am-8am, regardless of the tides. Once that sun breaks through these fish go hiding... Thats pretty much why I only caught a handful of bass, because I was out there after 11am. Dock fishing has produced the best bass action in either bay, throughout the day not just in the morning. Night fishing for bass has been really dead, except during the full moons the last couple months. We'll see if the next full moon stays the same. Night time bait soaking for sharks and rays has been decent though. Best times for those have been during the new/full moon phases.

Back to tubing soon:

The last time I was able to fish from my tube was during the float tube event I held back in May. I had been having problems with my waders(leaks) but decided to tough it out and get wet rather than postpone the event again. I finally sent them in a few weeks ago and they are on the way back now, once I get them back I will be getting back on it. I will be posting a friendly tubing get together for those who would like to join me for a couple sessions here on the blog, facebook, and on sdfish.com. This is for fishing only, no contest.

2012 Bassin for Breast Cancer III:

I mentioned at least years BBC2 event that the one held in 2012 was going to be way bigger, and better. What I didnt know was some things were going to change throughout the year and make things harder to get accomplished. First of all, the ones who said they could help me do this, and do that, have been nonexistent, and with me dunking my phone in the water while tubing, destroying it and losing all my contacts I had saved in it really messed up things. On top of that, I lost my father due to cancer back in February.... Even though it was expected to happen, nothing can really be the same after you lose one of your parents. Depression, lack of motivation, and just worrying about my mother kept me from being involved in much, including trying to get the details worked out for this years BBC3. I stopped fishing for a bit, put off orders, and forgot all about everything. As of right now, it looks like the BBC3 contest will just be another one just like the last two, the only difference is going to be that any bait can be used. This is because I do not expect to have any extra time(or money) to make baits and jigheads like I did last year. I am hopeful I can at least come up with a few prizes, maybe get a couple donations or something.... I am very appreciative of those who donated stuff, and helped me out last year, and espescially thankful to those of you who participated in the event. I will do my best to make this upcoming BBC3 event a fun one. If anyone wants to help out with this wether it be physically or with a raffle donation, I would really appreciate it! I do not have a date set for this yet, but it will be in October for sure, just like the last two.

There is one thing that did occupy my time after dad passed away, and some of his words of encouragement is what made me start the process on getting it going, which brings me to this...

The future of T&C Lures....

I have expressed to a couple of people that I had some projects lined up, but that they were NOT going to be T&C related. Now that rumors are coming back to me about it(thanks a lot... :P) I figured I would just fill you guys in on whats going on. Originally, I didnt know how long T&C Lures was going to last just due to the prices of everything, and the fact that I could not buy anything in bulk, which is basically the only real way to make any decent kind of profit in the bait making business. This has always been more like a hobby to me than a business, and I pretty much treated it like one while trying to be professional about it along the way. I have met a bunch of great people, and I appreciate everyone who has supported T&C Lures to this point. I can only hope I find similar results when I start my upcoming venture(to be officially announced later). At this moment I am unsure of how much longer T&C Lures will be operational, it really depends on how long it takes me to finalize the other projects. Once they are finished, I make the announcement. If I had to take a guess at a time frame, I would say January, but the goal is to start the new business by November. It may be a lot sooner if everything works out right. Or, things could get all screwed up and it might be until next summer, like I said I really dont know. But for now, everything is normal. When I am finally able to make the announcement, I will more than likely have one last package sale, as well as an online auction for whatever I have left, and I would keep the operation open for a couple more weeks for those who wish to make their final orders. I am both happy and sad about this move for personal reasons. I am sure a lot of you will have questions, please feel free to email me at tclures@hotmail.com with any you may have. Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-85134020382672169142012-07-02T08:57:00.000-07:002012-07-02T13:25:22.457-07:00June winners!Alex Williams caught this chunky 15" spotty on the black widow swimgrub, he wins the regular photo contest :)
For July, I was supposed to have a seperate 4th of July contest with a special pattern, I havent had much time to make anything lately other than a few small orders so there will be no 4th of July contest this year, I am sorry to those who were looking forward to this. If it makes you feel any better, last years contest resulted in NO pictures of fish caught lol.

There will be our normal contest, a silver fish contest(last one for this year) and another halibut contest. Please include bait and taped shots in your photos of the halibut you catch, had a bunch of halibut entries but only 2 with tape measurements, one was a taped shot but no bait in the photo... The silver fish contest does not require taped shots, just bait visible. Same with the regular photo contest.

The winner for the month of May is Jarrett Rosenthal, he caught this very nice calico bass in the 19"-20" range from the shore on a custom Denver Broncos pattern swimgrub. Its nice seeing the custom patterns do well this month, also had a couple submissions with a firetiger pattern that had the lead for a while until this calico overtook it.
The winner for the silver fish contest is Alvin Arreola, he caught this nice 22" shortfin corvina using the 3" aquamarine pattern swimgrub.
I want to thank everyone for their submissions, even though there werent too many in May.
I had no submissions for freshwater fish, so I will not have an ongoing freshwater fish photo contest.
Photo contests for June include silver fish, halibut, and of course our normal one for any fish.
I would like to add that I have had more reports of fish caught with custom patterns than normal ones for the month of May lol, like this chunky spotty on a firetiger pattern :)
As a matter of fact, this pattern did so well I just might include it on the color chart soon ;)
Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-10123715208402241852012-05-30T23:01:00.001-07:002012-05-30T23:01:24.746-07:00Some newsWell lets face it, daytime fishing from the shore has been a little rough for the last couple months. But, if you can get out on a boat, the halibut are going off really well right now, almost exactly a year later when it went off last year. Out of all the recent bay reports I have seen and heard about, there have been several between 26"-32" caught either drifting large sardines, and even some caught on bass jigs with plastic trailers. Surf fishing has rewarded a few lucky guys with some nice ones as well, most of them being caught with a shallow diving crankbait. Speaking of surf fishing, thats where I have been spending most my fishing time as of late, and a couple things I wanted to note about include the nice spawning spotfin croaker that have been being caught here and there, some really nice corbina sightings, and all the 6"-11" perch you can manage. Only bad part, is the conditions... The sea weed infested shoreline has made it really tough to get decent sessions in, but those who toughed it out and found openings in the mess have found a steady bite until the next clump of junk rolled in. Another thing worth mentioning for those of you who like to use heavy gear and big baits, the leopard sharks have been in really thick lately and they are gladly chewing on dead perch about 4" in length. Last thing I wanted to mention about surf fishing, is the sunset bite seems to be rewarding anglers with really chunky yellowfin croaker, most being caught on sand crabs.
Im not one to really post about sport fishing, but the Coronado Islands are putting out insane numbers of quality yellowtail, while the La Jolla area is still giving up a few decent white seabass and nice calico bass.
Speaking of white seabass, there have been several of them being caught inside the bays, and a few nice 10lb'ers spotted swimming around Mission Bay. Some of the nicer spotties have been caught with spinnerbaits, not too many nice plastic spotty reports coming in at all.

Whatever your fishing style is, get out there and get some. There is always something biting somewhere. Thats the beauty about our local waters here in this great city!Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-23466327056479404502012-05-03T10:26:00.004-07:002012-05-03T10:26:51.143-07:00Another freshwater photo contest :)It seems as though some of the freshwater anglers are starting to use swimgrubs a little bit more often, so I have decided to make a freshwater photo contest for this month. If I get a decent amount of submissions by different anglers, I will make it a normal monthly contest just like the saltwater one. Otherwise it will just be for this month. This contest will be for the nicest freshwater fish caught with any T&C bait. The bait must be visible as always, but there is no tape requirement, although its encouraged for decision making purposes. Email me with any questions you may have at tclures@hotmail.com :)Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372101486483984640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1545837811196797171.post-43299322148396592542012-05-03T07:03:00.001-07:002012-05-03T07:15:18.259-07:00Silver fish of the month(April)

Nancy Ortiz landed this nice bonefish while fishing in the South Bay, she caught it with the 3" aquamarine pattern swimgrub. She made sure that the bait was visible in the photo which will reward her with some new test patterns. The photo did not do the fish any justice as it was pushing 19", a personal best for Nancy!

Kirk Gosset was my winner for being the first to send me a photo of a largemouth bass at least 12" with the bait and tape measurement visible.

Sean Weyer won the regular monthly photo contest with a nice halibut, but could have claimed the silver fish contest as well had he had the bait visible in the photo lol, he caught this nice 22" corvina while using the 3" jacksmelt pattern swimgrub. There is still another silver fish contest for this month, so you still have a chance! Remember, the bait must be visible, and taped shots are encouraged but not required for the silver fish contest.
