Razor Clam pattern getting the job done

All of the fishing reports that have been emailed to me in the last 2 weeks have mentioned the razor clam pattern in it. It just might overtake the current #2 pattern which is the black widow. Here are a couple of cool underwater photos of some nice spotties caught with the razor clam over the weekend in San Diego Bay.

Thanks for your support!

I want to thank everyone who showed up today for the Bassin for Brest Cancer II fishing contest :)

It was a great turn out today, and there were quite a few fish caught today, not bad for not so ideal conditions. I wish I would have been able to run around and snap some photos, I left that up to my son and step daughter to do. Needless to say I dont have many usable photos lol. It would be great if everyone who took pictures could email them to me, I would really appreciate it.

Things got off to a great start with some fish being caught right away, much better than last years contest. The fishing wasnt wide open by any means, but there were fish being caught from beginning to end.

44 people signed up for the contest, out of those, 32 showed up plus we had 8 people show up on the stand by list participate. So we ended up with 40 participants which is great!

The fish counts look like this:

6 halibut(2 legals, a 24" landed successfully, and an estimated 30"+ that never made it to shore)

19 spotted bay bay( 16" being the biggest)

1 calico bass

14 mackeral

29 lizardfish

The winners for the fishing part of the contest are:

Brian Johansen - 24" halibut

Jordon Ong - biggest bass - 16" spotted bay bass

Jordon Ong - most lizardfish(5)

Ryan Sasena - most bass(5)

The grand prize was originally going to be 2 dozen custom baits and some jigheads, but thanks to a generous raffle donation from Len (a.k.a. Skrilla), we were able to have a custom wrapped bass rod as our top raffle prize. The winners for those two prizes were Becky Nava, she won the custom bait package, and Jarrett Rosenthal won the custom rod :) Congratulations to all the winners!

Next years BBC3 contest is going to be a lot bigger. The entire structure of the event will be a little different also, but there will be sponsors donating some nice prizes, and we are hoping to have a bbq as well. Even though its a year away, I am excited to know there are more people and companies wanting to donate to this great cause.

Thanks again everyone, today all of you were winners. Dont forget to email me your photos :)

Bassin for Breast Cancer II - Sign ups....

I am no longer reserving bait/jighead packages for this years contest. Those of you who have signed up via email, your bait package has been reserved. However, you have to check in before 9:30am on the day of the contest. If you do not check in prior to that time, I will consider you a "no show" and the bait package that would have been yours will be available to the first person on the stand by list. The stand by list is for anyone who decides to just show up for a shot at the contest without having signed up through email, this is on a first come first served basis. I will be at the set of benches towards the middle of the parking lot, there will be a sign taped to the back of one of the benches that will be easily visible from the parking lot. I will start check in's at 8am.

I am sorry for having to work this out this way, but I actually had way more people interested in participating in this years contest than I thought would, and I appreciate it so much! I just simply do not have any extra time to make anymore baits or jigheads to accomodate anymore entries.

Lastly, I will have some baits and jigheads on hand for those who may be interested in them. I wont have much since I do not have time to stock up on anything. If you would like to make a pre-order you will get a $1 discount on any package of baits ordered. I will only accept cash for any bait transactions that are made. All pre-orders can be picked up at the same location the following Saturday(10-29-11). I ask that everyone who is interested in making a purchase to wait until the contest is over. I will hang around the area to take orders until 12pm or a little after.

I can be reached at tclures@hotmail.com should you have any questions at all.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone out there, and meeting a lot of new people. Thanks again for all of your interest in helping out this great cause!

MB boat ride :)

The bonito are still being caught here and there, not in the biggest numbers or size, but after finally getting to have a full session I saw a couple hand fulls of boils in several different areas of MB. These are the smallest bonito I have seen come into the bay, 11"-12". In the last 5 years I have seen them get up into the 4lb range with an average one taping out around 15" or about 1.5lb. They have been hitting krocs, jointed rip baits, and top water baits.

On a side note, a few decent size bass were caught over the weekend also. Nothing to brag about, but far from micro status.

I want to thank Thomas and Craig for letting me tag along with them on the bay excursion yesterday morning, it always feels good to be on the water rather than on the shore... A little slow, but I managed 1 sand bass, 1 calico bass, and 8 spotties. I believe Thomas had a bonito and a few bass, and Craig had at least a hand full of bass. I cant wait to do it again :)
